Which six boroughs make up Selfe?
It's these: (clockwise)
Greenwich, Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Southwark, Lewisham. Links from their names are to pages in development which will be the beginning of sections devoted to each.
How do they fit in?
All the boroughs of London are covered by one European Movement Regional branch, known as "London4Europe". This group acts as a permanent stable hub for the constantly changing formation of smaller local groups.
Since the 2024 general election there have been 73 parliamentary constituencies in London. The unchanging boundaries are the 32 London boroughs, so it is sensible to organise pro-European London groups on the basis of borough boundaries. But although pro-Europeans live all over London there have never been 32 London borough groups, so the pragmatic solution is to cover a number of boroughs in one area group, with as many sections or affiliated groups as is appropriate to local circumstances.
If you divided London into five areas with a roughly equal number of constituencies and boroughs you could end up with something like this:

In this suggested area division of London the boroughs fall into these areas - it could of course be sliced differently:
| East area | Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, |
| South East area | Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lewisham, Southwark |
| South West area | Kingston, Lambeth, Merton, Richmond, Sutton, Wandsworth |
|
West area |
Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea |
| North area | Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, Westminster, |
At the moment there is more than one group operating in some of those five areas, in others there is one group but not yet covering the whole area. Over time it would be helpful in our view if what has happened in South East London were to be repeated elsewhere. This website will explain what has happened here.
The six boroughs of South East London for Europe
There have been different groups operating at different times in the six boroughs. After Brexit took place many walked away, perhaps assuming the unworkability of Brexit would now take over and before long there would be a massive swing against it and for re-joining.
Governments are like oil tankers and take a lot of turning. People have other concerns that prevent a focus on where all our problems began. But more and more of us feel frustrated enough to want to spend some time and perhaps even money to speed the process up, reverse our exit from Europe, and rejoin the EU.
Selfe began in April 2024 to bring back together the remnants of all former groups in our area of London and begin again, covering the whole of SE London in a single structure that had been discussed back in 2017, but never fully implemented. Now we are starting afresh, welcoming new people into our ranks and new ideas into our activities.
Watch out for the sub-pages you can get to from the links at the top to carry loads of content relevant to each borough. They will include:
- Maps of the boroughs broken down into constituencies and wards.
- Names and records of each MP
- Locations of interest for Selfe events
- Details of teams and activities.
